I am investigating how animals learn to associate stimuli occurring many seconds apart, particularly during Pavlovian trace conditioning. The project aims are (i) to monitor the emergence of synaptic plasticity during trace conditioning learning, and (ii) to investigate whether neuromodulators play a role in the emergence of such plasticity.
To this end, the research project will involve the use of single-unit recordings (either with tetrodes or silicon probes), imaging of fluorescent activity indicators (calcium imaging and neurotransmitter sensors), and manipulation of brain circuits (via optogenetics) in behaving mice.
This project involves collaboration with the  Kvitsiani Group.
Research involving my collaboration has resulted in the following  publications.
